Privacy

Local-first, without the cloud vacation.

This page is intentionally plain. Privacy pages should not juggle. They should explain what happens and what does not happen.

Short version

Your download history does not need a cloud vacation. Downloads Butler is designed as a local-first Chrome extension. It does not require an account, does not provide a cloud dashboard, and does not upload your downloads to a Downloads Butler server.

What the extension handles locally

Downloads Butler may process download metadata such as filename, file extension, MIME type, source URL/referrer when Chrome provides it, file size, download time, rule match information, destination, final filename, and local activity/diagnostic entries.

Where settings and logs are stored

Settings, rules, sessions, recent decisions, activity logs, review items, diagnostics, and Rescue job information are stored in Chrome local storage or local browser/file-system state used by the extension.

What is not uploaded

Downloads Butler does not upload your downloaded files, file contents, download history, rules, settings, source URLs, or local logs to a hosted Downloads Butler account. There is no account required for the product to work.

Permissions

The downloads permission is required to handle Chrome download filename decisions and related download actions. Storage is required for local settings and logs. Side panel is required for the browser side panel surface. Active tab can help recover source context when Chrome download metadata is incomplete.
