Sessions
Download Sessions
Start a focused mode when you are collecting files for one task, then restore ordinary rules when the session ends.
Now
Session: Research Sprint → Research / Papers
Then
Session: Client Assets → Assets / Graphics
The problem
Some download bursts belong together. Without a temporary mode, those files scatter like office supplies after a drawer incident.
How Downloads Butler handles it
- Start a session from a saved rule or focused session setup.
- The active session can disable ordinary enabled rules while the session is running.
- Stop the session manually, or let it end with the browser session when Chrome closes.
- When the session ends, rules that were enabled before the session can return.
What you control
- Start a session for a work sprint.
- Choose or update the session destination.
- Pause or stop the active session.
- Keep the chosen session in charge without permanently rewriting other rules.
- Keep long-term rules separate from short-term collection mode.
Practical examples
- Tax prep downloads can land in Finance / Receipts / 2026.
- Client assets can land in one project folder for the afternoon.
- Research PDFs can stay together while you collect sources.
Local note
Session state is local to the extension. Downloads Butler does not need an account to remember an active session.

One-Time Downloads
Handle the next download differently without changing your normal Sorting, Renaming, or Rules setup.
Rules
Download Rules
Create rules for websites, file kinds, extensions, or filename patterns, with active-rule checks that keep contradictory rules from running together.
Sorting
Download Sorting
Choose where Chrome downloads should land by group, exact type, website/source, or your preferred order, with source detection kept separate from file type.
